If you head to Bali’s south, where the road ends before the cliffs plunge into the sea, back up a bit, just before the turnoff, and you’ll find Deus Uluwatu. This once faraway place removed from the centre of things, saw her slow trickle of surf pilgrims turn to droves as more and more yearned for epic surf breaks, white sand beaches and those dramatic cliff top views.
The brethren of the boards may come across as a little salt encrusted but they still love to whack on their Friday night best and this here local outpost of optimism is the place where they can get their hands on all things Deus.
